Unfortunately, I wasn't able to physically go to Barcelona Tech City today so I can only live vicariously through what my compatriots have told me. So the day at Barcelona Tech City began meeting representatives that toured the building and the offices throughout the warehouse. Following the tour they were guided to the first company Shopery. The representative from Shopery then spoke about e-commerce and how it provides services for other businesses ranging from startups to larger companies like Amazon and Ebay. A lot of companies that do retail don't want to do inventory, and makes it easier for startups to sell goods online and this is where Shopery comes in and provides it services.
Next was Tiendeo who provides consumer behavior logistics, such as frequency, duration, and the types of products purchased to provide suggestions in coupons and products the consumer may be interested in. The head of the operations in Portugal took the time to explain the process and the business model used to track consumer behavior and send catalogs for consumer logistics. He also explained how Apple doesn't allow Tiendeo to monitor consumer behavior.
After Tiendeo, was Acqustic who does concerts for smaller artists, and provides music on demand. But that business philosophy wasn't making them money, so they did a 180 and began providing smaller, 'secret' concerts. I think that was in their best interest because people love the idea of exclusivity and being 'invited' when others aren't. So that business model was bound to succeed in my opinion. After was Metropolis lab who builds services to keep barcelona eco-friendly and less polluted as possible. They aren't trying to make a profit but instead are focused and concerned about the betterment of the society and the city. They have a few projects underway which are focused on carpooling, from ride sharing to bus haling.
